November 28 - Block 10 of 2nd 9 weeks

Welcome back to school.  Remember that the end of the semester is coming up and keeping your grades up in very important.  Be here, do your work, do your homework, study!
Quiz Thursday, 18 pts, over basics of transformations.
The quiz will contain:
4-5 multiple choice questions that are vocabulary related (see notes on bright yellow sheet from Monday, Nov 14)
Figures in coordinate plane that must be graphed and then transformed by a given rule.  There will be a reflection, a translation, and a simple rotation.
Be able to write translation as either a vector or coordinate rule.  Study pale yellow notes sheet about reflections.  Study bright green notes sheet about translations.
Today we practiced reflections on patty paper and graph paper.
We learned how to do rotations (multiples of 90 degrees) in the coordinate plane and we practiced quite a bit.
The homework (#8 attached below) is more practice on reflections.  Don't forget that when you are reflecting across y=2 or x=3, the reflected points must be equidistant from the reflection line.

November 18 - 9th block of 2nd 9 weeks

Today was our last block before Thanksgiving break.  There was no homework.  Enjoy your break!
In class today, we went back over some of our new knowledge over translations from Wednesday.
Then we created a foldable for notes on reflections over the x-axis, y-axis, and the line y=x.
Then we practiced applying translation or reflection to a point, a line segment, and a triangle.
STUDENTS NEED TO BE PARTICIPATING IN CLASS WHEN WE CREATED NOTES.  Many did not have their notes from Wednesday completed.  Many did not write up everything we did today in on our reflection foldable.  Many did not even try the homework.
There are not many weeks left in the semester.  Keep working!  Do your homework.  Participate in class.  Respect others.  Come on time and prepared!
Attached are things that we did in class today.

November 16 - 8th block of 2nd 9 weeks

Today was our second day of transformations.
Our focus was translation.
We learned that translating maintains shape and size of a geometric figure, so it is a rigid transformation.
We translate right or left and up or down along a translation vector. We can describe in words (like move the triangle 5 to the right and 3 down) or as a coordinate rule (x+5,y-3) or as a vector.
We practice several different translation problems in class, which should make the homework (attached below) seem a lot like what we did in class.
We also shared homework answers about rigid and non-rigid transformations, types of symmetry, and rotating, translating, and reflecting on square dot paper.
No assessment until after Thanksgiving.  No homework over the break.

November 14 - Block 7 of 2nd nine weeks

Today was our first day of a unit on Transformations.
We built a set of notes over the types of transformations, their definitions, lines of symmetry, points of symmetry, etc.
We practiced reflecting and rotating with patty paper.
We investigated number of lines of symmetry in regular polygons and number of rotational symmetries in regular polygons (both the same as the number of sides).
The homework was a short handout (HW #6) attached below.  Square dot paper was passed out to do problems 4-6 on the homework.
We did not view the 50 pt tests over angle pairs and reasoning.  Students who have not yet taken the test must come tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov 15) during advisory.

Today we took our Angle Pairs and Reasoning Assessment, worth 50 pts, on Google Forms on computers.
There is no homework tonight because we are at the end of a unit.
Before the test, HW #5 was collected for a grade.
We also practiced finding missing angles, identifying pairs, and saying whether they are congruent or supplementary.

There is a 50 pt test on Thursday , November 10 in Geometry.  It is over Angle Pairs and Reasoning.  It will be given on a Google Form.  It will consist of short answer, multiple choice, and open response.
To prepare for the test, re-work Homeworks 3 and 4. Study your yellow note sheets. Do HW #5 carefully.
Today in class we practiced naming, are angles congruent or supplementary, what would make the lines parallel?
We shared and corrected homework and our 20 pt quiz.
We practiced explaining why with an open response problem in class.
The homework #5 is attached below. Please answer carefully in the boxes. We actually practiced this problem in class today.

November 4 - Block 4

Today in class we took a 20 pt quiz over angle pairs and their relationships.  If you missed class, come Monday during advisory to make up the quiz.
HW #4 is attached below.  It is a good review for next Thursday's 50 pt quiz.
We shared good student writing and adequate student writing on deciding whether lines are parallel or not.
I took a grade on HW #3 and we went over it... good preparation for today's quiz.
We practiced angle pair naming, explaining why lines are parallel or not, and finding missing values with algebra.
Next time we will work more on the writing mastery and practicing for the unit test.  There is no new content left to learn.
YOU HAVE TO KNOW AND RECOGNIZE THE ANGLE PAIRS!!! Vertical, Linear pairs, corresponding, alternate interior, alternate exterior, and consecutive interior.  And whether they are congruent or supplementary when lines are parallel.

November 2 - 3rd block on 2nd 9 weeks

Short quiz this Friday; longer quiz next Thursday at the beginning of class.  New unit will be started the same day.

Today was the third day of our unit on parallel lines, transversals, and angle pairs.
We are at a point where students should be able to identify angle pairs by sight, determining if they are congruent or supplementary (or neither if the lines are not parallel).
Students should be able to name the angle pair relationship that allows them to find a missing angle.
Today we did a card sort to work on vocabulary and determine if congruent or supplementary. We also practiced applying algebra to these same situations. Students did two different activities that were turned in.
If you were absent today, you have homework to make up, but you must also make up the two activities that I collected in class.  You will need to come in during advisory to do this.
It is important to understand that a lot is happening in class, and that if you miss, you are missing far more than a short homework assignment.
Also, less than half the class had homework completed today, and that homework was not difficult. PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK!  It's important!
HW #3 is attached below and due Friday.
There will also be a quiz in class on Friday: find missing angles, name the angle pair relationships, use algebra to solve.
