Today is our last day of new content for the semester. We discovered that dilated polygons and circles are actually similar figures. We wrote up the definition of similar polygons from p 374 with a good sketch and label copied from the board. You can find a good sketch in your textbook on p 377 where
CORN ~ PEAS. Dilation will not be quizzed this semester and is not on the final. It is a preview for our first unit in January. Our other goal was to practice enough with Geogebra to feel comfortable using it as a tool to create our own notes about points of concurrency.
The definition of similar polygons is on p 374. We did investigations 2 & 3 on pp 375-6 and wrote up C-57 and C-58 from p 375-6. The fill in the blanks are "then they are similar" and "similar". The investigation #2 creates a good sketch.
Investigation 3 was just for fun... can you dilate a quadrilateral on copy paper using just your compass and straightedge. Kind of cool.
The topic list and first final review assignment were handed out today. The final review assignment is due next block. Answers will not be posted yet. The second assignment will be handed out next block.
Tests were viewed in class today. We will go over them before the final.
Class time for the next two blocks will be devoted to reworking parts of old tests and going over them.
Links to 1st final review and topic list are two posts down.
Here is a link to the second final review, if you would like to get started.
