Thanks for another good day.
We conducted a discussion in class today to share our thoughts about types of arguments, ending with "correct" one (only correct because of the types of reasoning that Ms. Bogart was "going for". Argument 2,3, 5, 8, and 9 are all based on patterns (inductive) and 1,4,6,7,10 are all deductive based on logic and facts or evidence.
We built a set of notes in class on the types of reasoning and then practiced determining conjecture and counterexample for arguments 2, 5, and 8.
We applied inductive reasoning to find the next 2 terms in a sequence and explain what the pattern was.
We also went over the fraction homework, warmed up with how to add fractions.
HW #2 - first 6 problems on the back of the fraction handout from Day 1 PLUS pp 102-3: 1, 3-10, 13-14, p 121:1-3.
The course syllabus was handed out in most classes to be returned signed after both student and parent have read it.
Compass order forms were handed out.
There will be a 10 pt quiz next time over inductive vs deductive plus countexample and conjecture. WE WILL PRACTICE THIS WITH A WARM-UP NEXT TIME. Read over your notes from today to prepare as well.
If you lost your compass order form or zero hour contract, those are available on the "forms" menu under Geometry. The syllabus that is there is last year's, but is similar so may be used if you got yours and lost it.
Notes for today are attached below.
The arguments from Day 1 are also attached if you need to know which numbered argument is which.
