Today we started section 5.1 - a combo deal of various trig stuff we already know and algebra we are supposed to know but probably don't. The big idea: use definitions, identities, and algebra to simplify trigonometric expressions. We also took the first part of the quiz 5.3 over solving equations. The rest will be taken Friday with Ms. Swinney as the sub.
We went over the worksheet 5.3 and some of the webassign problems, particularly ones that many people missed.
At the end of class, after the quiz, a grade was taken over HW #8 - 5.3 review worksheet.
Notes over 5.1 are attached. Make sure to fill in your yellow notes sheets from looking at p 348 and the definitions of your six trig ratios in terms of opposite, adjacent, and hypotenuse.
You may need more help than the notes will give. EXCEPT FOR EXAMPLE 1, the textbook from pp 348 and on is helpful. You should find quite a few examples of the more "Algebra 2" related skills for factoring and rational expressions and conjugates. Remember that, as you do your textbook HW #9, you can access answers to odds and some videos to show how to solve. Be sure to use notes when working on 7-13.
HW #9 - pp 353-4: 1-6, 7-11 odd, 13-18, 19-23, 25, 27, 43, 44, 49, 50, 53-56, 71.
YOU WILL SEE ALL ANSWERS AND WORK IN CLASS ON THE EVEN NUMBERED PROBLEMS.
BTW - here is homework sequence: HW #1-5 were all from sections 4.7-8 (#5 being the test review). #6 is the factoring worksheet(s), #7 is textbook work on 5.3 p 370, #8 is worksheet 5.3, #9 is textbook work 5.1.
Quiz Monday over 5.1.
You will have work in class on Friday to finish out section 5.1 and get mastery over those skills for the quiz Monday. Please help each other and do not waste your class time just because I have a sub.
