Today we quizzed over half angle and double angle trig identities, a useful concept in calculus.
The answers to the worksheet and work shown were shared, questions asked, "glitches" from prior knowledge pointed out.
A good question: how do I know which quadrant the half-angle will be in? You are looking for half the rotation from standard position, not half the angle inside the triangle you have sketched.
We started our next unit: Law of Sines and Law of Cosines. We did an investigation of finding area of any triangle given two sides and the angle between using the formula: A = 1/2 ab sin C, where a and b are the sides of the angle C.
The Law of Sines was derived using this new idea for area:
sin A/a = sin B/b = sin C/c. A, B, and C are angles of any triangle. a,b, and c are the side lengths opposite angles A, B, and C respectively.
Attached below is the worksheet for HW #3 (with a few notes on it) and the set-up for the answers, not the answers themselves.
We took the 5.5 quiz for 25 pts. It will not be graded until Monday. You will see it before I post it. Thanks to all those absent for coming by to take care of your make-ups! You cannot make a teacher happier!
