First things first: the unit circle mastery quiz was returned today. If you score less than 18, you need to sign up for Primetime and come do a re-take during advisory Wednesday. If you made 18, you can come if you want. It will be a different quiz.
Today our goal was to think about trigonometric ratios just as we did in our Geometry classes, with an emphasis on also understanding the 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 shortcuts. The trick to the homework is to know the definitions of the trig ratios for sine (opp/hyp), cosine (adjacent/hypotenuse), tangent (opp/adj); AND to know that cosecant, secant, and cotangent are just the reciprocal of the previous three.
The quiz over 4.2 was taken in class today (25 pts); we went over the 4.2 review worksheet before taking the quiz.
Make-ups need to be done during lunch of the next block so that quizzes may be returned at the end of the next block.
After some quick notes over the shortcuts and recognizing whether a triangle has a hypotenuse of 1 or some larger number number, time was given to work on HW #4 together with a partner:
Pages 284-287, Vocabulary Check #s: 1, 2 and 4. Exercise #s: 5, 7, 11, 15, 17, 23-28, 38-40, 53, 55, 57, 59.
No attachments. If you need help because you were absent, read pp 277-279 (stop before example 4).
Answers to evens: 2) opposite, adjacent, hypotenuse; 4) elevation; depression; 24) Pi/4, square root 2/2. 26) 60 degrees, sq root 3; 28) 30 degrees, 2; 38) a) 2, b) sq rt 3/ 3, c) sq rt 3/ 2, d) sq rt 3; 40) a) 1/5, b) 2 times sq rt of 6, c) same as b, d) answer to b or c divided by 5. (the answer to b or c is the opposite side, divide by hypotenuse of 5).
Next small quiz will be Basic Trig Identities on Friday, Sept 6.
