Today was the first block of the new semester, the beginning of our rigid transformation unit.
We decided on new seats and shared some information for new students and recap of class norms from the first semester.
You may get rid of your homework from the first semester. HOWEVER, the notebook continues in the same format. There is a homework section, an in-class (notes and investigations) section, and a Geometric Truth section. The Geometric Truth from the first semester should still be in your notebook with plenty of room for 2nd Semester Geometric Truth. The In-Class notes can be removed. I recommend saving these at home until the end of the year. A Geometric Truth grade is coming soon.
Today we created a graphic organizer of notes about transformations by reading and using pp 358-361 in the textbook.
We practiced rotation with patty paper and discovered that the line of symmetry of reflected polygons in the perpendicular bisector of the segment connecting corresponding vertices of the polygons. Some time was used at the end of class for hints on how to proceed on the investigation on p 367. In an algebraic rule like (x,y) arrow (x, -y), the meaning of the rule is to take all the vertices (x,y) of a polygon in the coordinate plane and change them by leaving x as is and changing the sign of y. EX) (2,-1) would become (2,1).
HW #1 - pp 362-4: 1-6, 12-14, 16. AND do the investigation on p 367 on your full piece of graph paper. Square dot paper is needed for problems 4-6 on the homework. Be sure to carefully read and follow the instructions for the investigation on p 367.
Graph paper or square dot paper can be picked up in my room or printed off by Googling pdf square dot paper OR pdf graph paper.
