Ms. Bogart is talking too much in this new unit. There is a reason, though. So students need to be listening. For such simple ideas, there are so many important details and hints about how to look at, interpret, think about, name, sketch, label, define, build on previous definitions, etc. about basic geometric terms!
As of now, your geometric truth section should have the following terms in it, with good definitions and sketches and labels: collinear, coplanar, line segment (includes endpoint), segment addition, congruent segments, midpoint (includes bisect), ray, angle, measure of an angle, angle addition, congruent angles, angle bisector, adjacent angles.
Our big idea is to focus on precision when naming, labeling, sketching and defining geometric terms. We are practicing these in class.
Today we created a set of notes about points and lines and planes and their relationships. We practiced naming and sketching lines, line segments, rays, and angles. We practiced measuring and drawing angles using the protractor.
We also practiced marking sketches and interpreting marks on sketches. Sketches can be free-hand. The marks make them accurate.
We also investigated and derived the midpoint formula on a small piece of graph paper (glue into your "in class" section). If you cannot find where you wrote the midpoint formula, it is on p 31 of your textbook.
HW #5: p 29: 19-20,23-24,27, p 32:1-4, p 39:31,33,34,36.
At the end of class we took a short HW quiz -4 pts - over HW #4. It was a quick excerpt from a short HW. This will count as a homework grade.
